How was Malaysia Python User Group Started?
A brief note of how mypug was started
Malaysia Python User Group
Objective : We love Python and want to promote Python programming in Malaysia in all possible ways in areas of programming and cross platform development.
Ironically the Malaysia Python user group was founded by two individuals that are looking for a local user group. Here is the account on how it was started.
In 2008, Marcus Low who has been programming in Windows and director of a local software house has just completed a project using Python. He used Python because he was unfamiliar with Linux and Unix and learning a cross platform language seems to be the only way to bridge the experience and skills over. However he was quickly caught up in the joy and fun of programming in Python, the project he worked on also proved to him that Python is a serious development language and is stable for commercial development. Soon the interest grew that Marcus finds that he needs to reach out to like-minded people.
Marcus posted an email to Python.org:-

Hi,
I am thinking of promoting Python for the local developers here in Malaysia, via Universities , seminars etc .
Is there already a user group here in Malaysia? Any pointers would help.
Marcus.
This posting was soon visited by Jeremy Johnson, a veteran consultant with his own company in programming projects. Jeremy too was looking for the local Python user group so that he could share his interest in this wonderful programming language.
Jeremy emailed to Marcus on this subject and soon they were both talking on MSN about it. Jeremy suggested that maybe they should start one since there isn’t one around!
That suggestion was turned into action and both Python.my and Py.my was registered and a simple but often “cited” pink image containing both Marcus and Jeremy’s email contact and an invitation to join Python User Group Malaysia.
The first meeting was held on 7th July 2009 @ MidValley StarBucks! The rest is history.
